Nationally recognized, Hennepin County Medical Center (HCMC) is a comprehensive academic medical center and public hospital located in the heart of the Twin Cities and the third largest hospital in the metropolitan area.
SRF worked with HCMC staff to develop a reflective garden area adjacent to the new visitor reception and waiting area building addition. Floor to ceiling windows were incorporated into the building’s façade to provide the garden with a strong visual connection to the interior space and offer expansive views to all areas of the garden.
An overhead trellis structure extends inside and outside of the building to also create the perception of the garden extending into the waiting room area. A decorative steel fence and planting buffer frame a backdrop for the garden and sculpture features; bird feeders provide depth and visual interest to the space.
The entire garden area was also graded to a gently sloping embankment to provide more intimacy to the space and enable better views to all areas of the garden.
