The opening of our new Saint Paul office is just around the corner. In this series of Employee Spotlights, we’ll get to know our Saint Paul office leaders. First up is Mona Elabbady. Mona will lead the Saint Paul office’s Transit Planning and Design services. She has spearheaded transit planning projects throughout the Twin Cities and across the Midwest and also dabbles in policy planning projects.
How did you you get started in the Transit Planning and Design field?
I started my career in engineering and transitioned into transit planning. I’ve always had a personal interest in transit since it is such an important aspect of a city. I love working in urban areas and transit allows me the chance to improve transportation in those cities.
What are you looking forward to with the opening of the new office?
I lived most of my childhood in Saint Paul, not too far from the Saint Paul office, so I am really excited to be returning to the area. I’m excited to be in such a great neighborhood that is centrally located between my many clients in the Twin Cities.
What is the most rewarding part of your job?
The most rewarding part of my job is knowing that the projects I am fortunate to work on are making a difference in people’s everyday lives. It’s exciting to be a part of projects that are a visible part of the community. It also makes it a lot easier to explain to my kids what I do all day!
What Saint Paul lunch or happy hour spot will you visit first?
I love all kinds of Asian food, so I’m looking forward to being a few LRT stops away from Frogtown to enjoy the numerous great restaurants. I especially like Ngon.
Tell us something about yourself that would surprise us.
Although I was born and raised in Minnesota, I have never gone ice skating or skiing. Everyone who knows me might not be too surprised given that I don’t like to be cold ever, so I really have never attempted many winter sports.
