The Hy-Vee Fitchburg 1 Grocery Store site is an eight-acre development located on a previous quarry. SRF, as the design engineer, worked closely with the Owner and the City to perform a traffic impact analysis, mitigate traffic impacts, and develop site infrastructure improvement plans including landscape improvements for an 85,000+ square-foot store featuring drive-up service, an outdoor sales area, multiple loading/truck access areas, and a parking lot accommodating more than 400 vehicles and non-motorized transportation.
Site constraints involved developing over shallow bedrock, accommodating significant grade changes, and meeting City and regional requirements for stormwater management. SRF employed innovative underground stormwater treatment best management practices (BMPs) to remove total suspended solids (TSS), oil and grease, and meet volume discharge requirements. SRF also developed preliminary concepts and final design for a terraced retaining wall system to make full and effective use of the site.
