Plymouth Avenue North Reconstruction

Plymouth Ave North from Xerxes to Penn Avenues in the City of Minneapolis was an existing two-lane roadway with parking and on-street bike lanes in both directions with a narrow boulevard between the roadway and sidewalk.

SRF partnered with the City of Minneapolis to enhance the non-motorized user accommodations by with a design that included narrowing the vehicular traffic lanes, adding curb extensions and bump outs to widen the boulevard space and provide a protected bikeway (behind the curb) in both directions along the corridor.

The design also features raised crossings for the bikeways and pedestrians at all intersections traveling east-west and median refuge islands and an RRFB installation to increase the safety of the corridor crossings. In addition to these features, the design team worked closely with metro transit to enhance the bus stop facilitates and operations along the roadway.
