Urban Mobility

SRF’s Urban Mobility practice is centered around the transportation needs of people in an urban environment. Our community focused design approach works well with clients that want to establish designs that can transform corridors for the 21st century. This approach looks at each corridor based on its unique characteristics to determine the optimum space balance between pedestrians, cyclists, transit and other vehicles.

To achieve this, SRF’s planners, engineers, landscape architects and designers collaborate to realize well rounded designs. An example of how we work together is SRF’s Active Transportation Team

Building thriving communities for all ages and abilities.

SRF has developed a team of dedicated experts that create lasting solutions for people walking, rolling, and biking. We are passionate in our belief that everyone must have a safe, convenient, and enjoyable experience traveling in their communities and are committed to supporting active modes of transportation. Our experience will help you meet future mobility needs that require thinking beyond traditional planning and engineering. Spanning statewide policies to corridor plans, localized studies and on-the-ground design, we strive to produce creative solutions for complex needs.

Urban Mobility Practice

Multimodal Planning & Design

Across the country, municipalities are striving to provide safe, practical access to streets for all: vehicles, pedestrians, bicycles, freight, and transit. Many terms define this trend: Context Sensitive Design, Livable Communities, Complete Streets, and Community Based Street Design.

SRF has used these concepts to develop multimodal networks for many years. Our approach emphasizes connectivity within the transportation system. Through careful consideration of the project’s context, the user’s point of view, and the relationship to the existing and future system, we develop solutions that work for your community.

Streetscape Design

SRF’s landscape architects understand the community benefits of a high-quality streetscape.  Streetscapes can do much more than just enhance the aesthetics of a roadway.

They can create a unique identity for a community, improve safety, and strengthen the pedestrian realm. We plan and design creative sidewalk improvements, welcoming community gateways, sustainable boulevard and median plantings, and attractive lighting treatments.

By developing inviting streetscapes, SRF has helped to enhance community livability, promote economic development, revitalize local businesses, and preserve historic resources.

Streets

SRF has supported more than 200 municipalities with planning, design, engineering, and construction administration services.

From residential streets in growing communities to major urban downtown corridors, we design multi-modal facilities that support the needs of our clients and their users.

ADA & PROWAG

SRF is a regional leader in performing ADA compliance checks and accessibility assessments for a variety of public space infrastructure.

Transit Planning and Design

Transit infrastructure is the fabric that weaves communities together, providing opportunity, connection, and reliable transportation for all.

At SRF, we believe transit promotes equitable access to employment, education, healthcare, retail, and entertainment, improving the economy and livability of our cities and communities while supporting a multi-modal system of transportation. Transit is a critical component of our public infrastructure system to advance dynamic and vibrant communities.
