As part of their latest Sustainable Engineering issue, Informed Infrastructure, a renowned industry-leading magazine, featured the ongoing work of SRF’s Traffic and Technology team in partnership with the Minnesota Department of Transportation on their County Road Safety Plan (CRSP) project.
GIS/Data Sciences Coordinator Dan Tinklenburg and Performance Management Senior Director Renae Kuehl provided valuable insight about how their teams have worked with MnDOT since the beginning of this effort in 2008.
This project was all about doing analysis, and we had to prioritize every roadway segment, intersection and curve

based on risk.
With the use of the project team’s analysis and prioritization tools, MnDOT and all of Minnesota’s 87 counties have been able to identify their highest risk roadways and apply effective and low-cost safety mitigation strategies.
For the feature classes of segments, curves and intersections on these county systems, we were collecting and updating more than 50 different attributes.
