The American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) of Minnesota has awarded SRF Consulting Group the 2013 Engineering Excellence Grand Award for its work on the new Lowry Avenue Bridge over the Mississippi River.
SRF and bridge specialist T.Y. Lin International provided preliminary and final design and engineering services for the new bridge after unstable foundations led to the original structure’s permanent closing in 2008. Its replacement, an iconic basket-handle steel arch bridge, opened in October 2012 and serves as an important transportation corridor and neighborhood connection in Minneapolis.
The Lowry Avenue Bridge project team accepted the Grand Award at the 2013 awards banquet where the project also received a “People’s Choice Award,” as voted by engineers and clients in attendance. SRF also received 2013 Engineering Excellence Honor Awards for its outstanding work on the following projects:
- Anoka County CR 14 Design-Build (Coon Rapids and Blaine, Minn.)
- Broadway Avenue (CSAH 2) Reconstruction (Forest Lake, Minn.)
- Metro Transit Arterial Transitway Corridors Study (Minneapolis, Minn.)
